Isagenix Review – Cleanse Shake Break-Down

Isagenix’s brand of meal replacement shakes, IsaLean Shakes, is one of the company’s most popular products and, as Isagenix states it, “is a nutritious, balanced meal replacement with protein, energy-boosting carbohydrates and good fats that promote reduced cravings, healthy weight loss, and fat burning while building strong, lean muscle mass.”

isagenix reviews

Upon first inspection, it’s tempting to agree with Isagenix’s statement. The IsaLean Shakes have a substantial amount of “Cheerful Cows” protein per serving, contain 23 vitamins and minerals (the most we’ve seen yet), and have a great flavor profile.

But they also have a couple of things going against them (such as sugar content and price-point, to name a couple) that could sway your opinion of their product.

In this Isagenix shake review, we take a closer look at the research we uncovered, and help you decide if IsaLean shakes are the best option for reaching your weight loss goals.

Ingredients, Nutrients, Vitamins, and Minerals

How Many Calories Are In IsaLean Shakes?

IsaLean shakes contain 240 calories per serving. When compared with Ideal Shape shakes, that number appears to be substantially high. But keep in mind that those 240 calories are in 60g worth of powder, where the 100 calories in Ideal Shape shakes are in 29g of powder.

When viewed in that perspective, IsaLean shakes contain only about 30 calories more than Ideal Shape’s. While there’s still a difference, it’s not near as substantial as some believe.

How Much Protein Per Serving? Fats? Carbs?

One packet (60g) of IsaLean contains 24g of protein, 40% of the packet’s total weight.

That packet also contains 5g of total fat (1.5g saturated) and 24g of total carbohydrates (8g dietary fiber; 11g sugars).

Other nutrients include:

  • Cholesterol: 45mg
  • Sodium: 260mg
  • Potassium: 320mg

*Note: The above information came from the Strawberry Cream flavor of IsaLean. However, the other flavors are very similar in macronutrient and nutrient quantities.

  • Vitamin C: Helps protect your body’s immune system and wards off fatigue caused by stress

Taste and Consistency

What Flavors Are Available?

IsaLean shakes are currently available in five flavors: Creamy French Vanilla, Strawberry Cream, Creamy Dutch Chocolate, Black Sesame and Orange Cream.

isagenix isalean shake flavors

Based on what we’ve found, the Creamy Dutch Chocolate appears to the fan favorite with Creamy French Vanilla coming in a close second. Strawberry Cream is the newest flavor, and Black Sesame can be consumed either cold or warm.

The shakes are known for their sweetness, which makes sense, seeing how just one packet contains 11g of sugar. While that’s not an insane amount in the grand scheme of things, it is approximately six times as much sugar in a similar amount of Ideal Shape shakes.

If you’re especially strict with your daily sugar intake, this may not be the best brand for you to go with. On the other hand, if taste is important, then Isagenix will more than likely be a top contender.

What Is The Consistency Like?

Where Ideal Shape shakes tend to fall a bit short in the consistency department, Isagenix shakes are standout stars. The results speak for themselves.

We can count on one hand the number of consumers that complained about the IsaLean shakes consistency. And in what few complaints we did find, the consumers felt the shakes were a little too thick for their tastes.

The thing with thicker shakes is that they usually don’t mix as well as those with thinner profiles. IsaLean shakes seem to be the exception to the rule. Clumps were virtually non-existent when mixed with water and at a minimum when mixed with milk.

To sum up the taste and consistency of IsaLean shakes… they easily fall within our top three list of most tasty meal replacement shakes.

Satisfaction Level

What Does Isagenix Use to Curb Hunger?

Isagenix uses a combination of whey protein, fiber, and active enzymes to help curb consumers’ hunger and appetite – the standout component being the active enzymes.

While we were unable to find out what all the active enzymes consisted of, we did uncover that Lactase is one of them. Lactase is a digestive enzyme that helps break down milk sugar lactose, which helps consumers digest the milk components much easier.

Those same enzymes also help stave off hunger for up to 4 hours (according to reports from consumers). That time limit places IsaLean towards the top of the hunger-curbing duration list for meal replacement shakes that we’ve reviewed.

How Long Is Hunger Curbed On Average?

While hunger has been curbed for up to 4 hours for some consumers, two-and-a-half hours seems to be the average time (slightly above average for meal replacement shakes).

If you’re active, the appetite suppression will probably be shorter (due to a higher metabolism). If you’re not as active, then it’s more likely to be longer.

Isagenix Reviews & Results

The results we uncovered form other consumers’ Isagenix shake reviews were mostly positive. A couple of reviews that really stuck out to us include:

  • A 55-year old that lost over 25 lbs. (time-frame not included in the review). The person states that they are now a size 4.
  • Another consumer lost 15 lbs. in the span of a couple of months with very minimal exercise.

Keep in mind that the results above are not typical and will vary depending on your genetics, fitness level, and countless other factors.

But based on what we uncovered during our research, we’re confident that if you use the shakes as directed and are active, you will see some form of weight loss within a couple of weeks.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • High quantities of protein. IsaLean shakes have 24g of protein in each single-serving packet – some of the highest quantities of protein found in meal replacement shakes that we’ve reviewed so far.
  • Effective at curbing hunger. A litmus test for meal replacement shake quality is the length of time it curbs appetite. Most quality shakes will curb it for an average of two hours. Isagenix shakes are slightly above average.
  • Protein is free from hormones and routine antibiotics. IsaLean protein is sourced from “Cheerful Cows” – cows that have not been treated with hormones or routine antibiotics.
  • Contains 23 vitamins and minerals. Isagenix shakes have all of the typical vitamins and minerals found in meal replacement shakes and then some. The additions of selenium, manganese, and molybdenum make this formula stand out form the competition.

Cons

  • High levels of marketing materials. Reports state that the product is shipped with a large amount of marketing materials that seemingly try to convince the consumer to join Isagenix’s MLM scheme. That will be a nuisance for some, but not for others.
  • More expensive than similar products. Isagenix is on the expensive end of the meal replacement shake spectrum. (More on price in the Where to Buy section).
  • High in sugar content. The only category to take a significant hit in terms of quality is IsaLean’s sugar content. A single packet contains 11g of sugar – almost six times the amount found in a similar serving of Ideal Shape (2g of sugar).

Where to Buy Isagenix IsaLean Meal Replacement Shakes

We searched for a way to purchase IsaLean shakes directly from Isagenix’s website, but were unable to locate it (which was somewhat surprising to us).

For that reason, we concluded that Amazon.com/Isalean is the best location to purchase IsaLean shakes:

One 30.1 oz. container costs $53.00
That comes out to $0.83 per ounce.
Standard Shipping is Free (Item ships within 5-8 business days)

Final Verdict

There’s a lot to like about Isagenix’s IsaLean shakes. They pack a lot of protein (important for building muscle), curb hunger for a substantial amount of time, and have a thicker consistency and sweeter flavor than other similar products.

Our biggest issues with IsaLean are its high levels of sugar and higher price point. While we still personally prefer Ideal Shape’s Review line of meal replacement shakes to IsaLean, we would definitely recommend this product as a quality alternative.

  1. While I do currently use the IsaLean shakes, I am going to bow out of using them any further. I understand that this may work for many, and I started off well, but realized the hard way that my hypotension and cholesterol became higher than normal. Studying a little further, one of the ingredients in these shakes is Tricalcium Phosphate, which can cause a few issues in some people. I just happen to be one of them.

  2. I’ve used the French vanilla shape along with a low carb high protein diet and it’s worked amazing. In for weeks I have lost 10.6lbs and I am now at 213.4lbs.I do work out in the gym too 4 to 5 days a week.

  3. I love the Isagenix products! Have lost 17 lbs in 3 months (my husband has lost 18 in one month), and all our blood test results have improved (including the sugar level). We sometimes add Natural Stevia flavored extracts (berry, maple, pumpkin spice, banana, etc.) and/or frozen berries to the shakes to create different-tasting shakes, and they are amazing. We are satisfied and full for hours and the program works for us!

    • Hey Celeste,

Glad to hear that Isagenix has work so well for you and your husband. Great results and keep us updated on your progress. Thanks! 🙂

  4. i have been using isagenix for 1 week now and i have already lost 13 lbs …i lost this program yes it is expensive but your saving on your meals so youd waste the money either way anyways

    • Hi, i have just started isogenix, and after reading that you have lost 13lbs in 1 week i was impressed, what have you done that has helped in the loss, do you snack between shakes? and if so what do you have?

  5. I have been on the 30 day custom cleanse packet for the months of March, April and May, I am now doing the energy packet as I am playing more outdoor volleyball. I am down anywhere from 36-39 lbs on a regular basis. It goes up and down throughout the week depending what I eat for my big meal of the day. I have a lot of people commenting how much weight I have lost and I feel a 100 times healthier! I am down about 4/5 pants sizes in jeans and 5/6 sizes in dress pants.

It is a little costly but once you get the weight off you could go down to $180.00 for four canisters of shakes which is two meals a day for 30 days and $3.00 a meal. I would recommend this diet to anyone!

I am going to continue using the energy pack as I coach and will be active at practices.

I do eat snacks. Red Beet eggs and red beats, veggies and yogurt dips, fruit, different small salad kits with lots of green veggies in them and a poppy seed dressing. I some times cook veggies in steamer bags with olive oil and lemon pepper as a snack as well.

The initial cost is a shock, and it took me over a year to give in. But I am so glad I did it. I recommend joining when they run the free membership deal because you can get it under $300.00 the first month.

Best part the shakes taste good and I think the extra sugar in the shakes “which is not a lot compared to what you would eat if you were not drinking a shake” That extra little bit gets me through the day without being dizzy and headaches. If you have that the first day or two that is just natural that is always on every diet. Hang in there for the week and let it ride out and you will be very happy with the results!

    • Hey Josh,

Congrats on the amazing results! Thank you for sharing your story with us and our readers. Keep it going and please keep us updated. All the best! 🙂

What are the implications of social drinking (wine) with this product?

    • Hey Susan,

You shouldn’t have any issues just along as you’re mindful of moderation. Also be aware of the calories, a glass of wine or beer may not put you over the edge but there are certain drinks that can counteract even the best efforts in restricting calories.

My husband and I have been on Isagenix for 3-1/2 months. I started it to support my husband, who wanted to lose a little weight. He is 61 and by no means obese. I have known about Isagenix for years, learning from a periodontist/nutritionist/functional medicine MD I work with. My husband and I are both active and go to the gym and have for quite some time. We have always eaten pretty healthy with little or no processed foods and typically a Mediterranean diet. Since starting Isagenix, I will say that both of us have noted a marked improvement for the ability to gain lean muscle. I am 125 lbs, 5’6″ and have always had a slim frame, small bone structure. The additional protein has really helped me to be able to maintain and improve muscular tone. My husband has been going to the gym regularly (4 times a week minimum) for about 2-1/2 years and is now seeing a great improvement as well (I love it!)
I did not think I would like the shakes because I am not a “sweet” lover. However, I actually love them. I am 55 and feel great, like I am in my 20’s again with the improved health and energy I have. One of my favorite products is the Ionix Supreme, which helps with the negative effects of stress, which I have had a lot of in the past 2 years. I cleanse less than the suggested amount because I don’t want to lose any weight. I only cleanse one day at a time when I do. I feel great during and after a cleanse, too. I do not use all the products available. I only use the Custom 30 day products which include the IsaleanPro shakes (36 grams), Isalean shakes (24 grams), Cleanse for Life and Ionix Supreme.
My husband has lost 28 lbs so far and I initially lost 15 lbs and am maintaining or gaining muscle weight. We love the core products. It certainly isn’t necessary to use all they have to offer, but they do have the Amped line for performance, as well. I write this review so that people can understand that it is great nutrition, and not only for weight loss.

    • Hi Diane,

Thank you for sharing you experience with us. Also, congrats to both you and your husband not just on the incredible weight loss but on a healthier lifestyle. Those are amazing transformation, keep up the great work and please keep us updated. All the best! 🙂

Oh, and Susan Williams, I do drink red wine, mainly on the weekends. The most important thing is to try to stay away from mixed drinks that are high in sugar and calories.

  9. Hi! I’ve been taking the Isagenix shakes for a month now, 2 shakes a day except on my “rest days” , I’ll have 2 normal meals. I exercise at least 5 days a week. I’m 44 years old, currently 136 lbs and have hypothyroid which I’m on medication for. That said, in the past with trying to watch what I eat and exercising regularily, the most I’ve been able to lose is about 1 lb a month so very very slow. In the past month I’ve managed to lose 4 lbs and I have lost inches as well. This may not seem much for some, but it’s huge for me.

I really like the taste of the shakes, and find it staves hunger for me for about 4 hours, especially the IsaLean Pro shakes that pack 36 gms of protein. I’m not a big believer in the cleanses so I’m not doing those. While I’m trying to lose weight/fat and gain muscle, I’ll continue to do the 2 shakes a day. Once I get to my goal, I may change that to one a day, but I’ll see how it goes. I’ve tried other shakes but have never been able to stick with them more than a week or two as I was constantly hungry. I’m quite please with the shakes.

    • Hi Hali,

Thank you for sharing. Any weight loss with hypothyroid is a huge accomplishment! Also maintaining your weight can be a challenge as well. Be very proud of how far you came and keep it up. Please keep us updated and I wish you all the best! 🙂

  10. Just a question if I am looking at starting on the products. I am Lactose and Fructose intolerate. Is there any of the products I should stay clear from? My Husband is also interested in starting the diet.

    • Hi Julie,

Have you looked at Isagenix allergen table over at http://www.isagenix.com? All of the products are listed on there!

IsaLean shakes and IsaLean bars do have some dairy in them. Any of Isagenix products that say “whey protein” has dairy as well. However, Isagenix do offer non dairy options for both the shakes and the bars – Isagenix Non Dairy Shakes & Bars. As far as fructose, I did some research and it looks like the Amped Hydrate in all flavors contain fructose, amped power, cleanse for life, snack wafers and some of their shakes. You can also contact Isagenix to be sure. Thanks!

  12. For years I’ve worked out and had been unsuccessful in losing weight. I spoke to a friend about Isagenix, researched it then decided to try it. It does tastes very good – and I sometimes supplement my shakes by adding berries or 1/2 a banana for extra flavoring. In the 4+ months I’ve been using Isagenix, My weight has dropped from 204 to 176. I don’t feel hungry and my energy level has increased. The ~ $3 per shake cost seems reasonable. There are non-dairy options for those who may be lactose intolerant.
